GeoTours of Tennessee
As of this morning, November 18, 2016, The state of Tennessee can now boast of two excellent GeoTours. The Geotours of Tennessee are the Jack Trail GeoTour and the Discover South Central Tennessee GeoTour.
Jack Trail GeoTour –
A short description on the geocaching.com GeoTour Page says:
The Jack Trail GeoTour lets you explore Tennessee’s history, music, horses, famous distilleries, small-town charm and great geocaching. Join us for an excellent sampling of the things that make Middle Tennessee special, and a perfect opportunity to raise your glass to a one-of-a-kind road trip.
Discover South Central Tennessee Geotour –
A short description on the geocaching.com GeoTour Page says:
The back roads can be the best roads when it comes to geocaching adventures. Find history, outdoor adventure, peace and quiet, culinary delights, hiking, spirits, charming towns and one-of-a-kind attractions spread through our rolling hills in South Central Tennessee. Discover all of our hidden treasures while geocaching!
These two GeoTours of Tennessee have a lot of similarities, but are still different in many ways. There is just so much to do and see in the South Central Tennessee area, it couldn’t be contained in just one GeoTour; There had to be two!!

On the Jack Trail GeoTour, the first of the two GeoTours of Tennessee, you will visit at least nine different Tennessee counties in order to find all sixty-six geocaches along the trail. This will include many miles of back roads to areas most people never will venture off the highways to visit.
In order to participate, you download the “passport” which gives you instructions on completing your GeoTour and a place to keep track of the codes you will find in each of the geocache containers.
For each geocache found on the GeoTour is worth one point. They also offer extra points for doing business with local “Trail Partners.” There are two types of trail partners. “Meal Partners” will earn you two points and “Lodging Partners” will get you a sweet three points.
The first 1000 geocachers to earn fifty-five points are eligible to receive a Jack Trail GeoTour Geocoin. The first 200 geocachers to find all sixty-six geocaches are eligible for a “perfect attendance” edition of the Jack Trail GeoTour Geocoin.
Crazy Dave’s Crew has made several trip to the small towns of Middle Tennessee working on completing this GeoTour. We have visited a Confederate cemetery, an old jail museum, a National Battlefield, an old-fashioned general store and even seen one of the Model-T delivery trucks used by the Jack Daniels Distillery. Most recently we toured Murfreesboro, Tennessee in the dark to visit the Oaklands Mansion and the Geometric Center of the state of Tennessee.
I have lived in Tennessee my entire life and never seen or even knew some of these sites existed. If you you’d like to read about some of our adventures on the Jack Trail GeoTour check out Bacon Makes It Worth It, Jack Trail GeoTour Adventures, and Jack Trail Geotour in Murfreesboro at Night.
Discover South Central Tennessee GeoTour
On the Discover South Central Tennessee GeoTour, the second and newest of the two GeoTours of Tennessee, you will visit many of the same areas as you would following the Jack Trail Geotour , but, in order to find all eighty-seven geocaches on this GeoTour you will have to spend a little more time in the deep Southern portion of Tennessee and you will travel farther west. On this GeoTour, you will enjoy the beautiful back roads of Tennessee while having an adventure off the normally beaten path.
The goal of this GeoTour will sound familiar:
In order to participate, you download the “passport” which gives you instructions on completing your GeoTour and a place to keep track of the codes you will find in each of the geocache containers.
For each geocache found on the GeoTour is worth one point. They also offer extra points for doing business with local “Trail Partners.” There are two types of trail partners. “Meal Partners” will earn you two points and “Lodging Partners” will get you a sweet three points.
The first 500 geocachers to earn seventy points are eligible to receive a South Central Tennessee GeoTour Geocoin. The first 100 geocachers to find all eighty-seven geocaches are eligible for a “perfect attendance” edition of the Jack Trail GeoTour Geocoin.
The Crew has not taken on this mission, yet, so I can’t tell you exactly what interesting and unusual locations you will visit, but I can’t wait to find head out on another adventure! I am certain it will be as much, if not more, fun that the Jack Trail GeoTour has been.
We are are excited to now have two Geotours of Tennessee. Do you have any GeoTours in your home state or country? Have you tried any of the other GeoTours? Are you planing a GeoTour? Which one? Why?
We would love to hear from you. Tell us in the comments below.

We can wait. We just seem to be having problems getting it scheduled. Maybe after the first of the year.
