Moving day brings with it many mixed feeling and emotions (and lots of aches and pains)!
We have a small antique/collectibles business that includes a large booth and three showcases at Crazy Daisy’s Antiques & Uniques. We made the decision about a month ago to move to a booth in a better location within the shop and reduce the amount of showcases to just one. Doing this will hopefully increase a visibility and decrease our costs. While we are excited about the possibilities, moving day did not go as planned at all!
Moving Day, Feb. 27 – 28, 2016
For some odd reason, I woke up at 6:00 am and decided to fix breakfast while I waited on my coffee to brew. I fixed bacon, biscuits, fried eggs and chocolate gravy. I finally managed to get everyone else out of bed and we sat at the table eating breakfast as a family (something that doesn’t happen often anymore!)
After breakfast, Laura, Shelby and I headed to Crazy Daisy’s to get started with the move. I had planned for us to work for about three hours (that should be enough time with three people working, right?). When you get into a groove it is hard to stop sometimes, so we didn’t! Shelby cleaned and helped organize the shelves, while I did the heavy lifting and moving and Laura loaded small items in a cart to be moved. We made a pretty good team.
We crossed the four-hour mark and quickly moved to the five-hour mark. Soon we realized that the shop would be closing before long. We had to call it a day!! Looks like moving day just became moving days!
Sunday morning, I woke up early again(I don’t know what is wrong with me!!) This time I fixed scrambled eggs and poppy-seed muffins.
The team of three headed to the shop again to finish up. After several more hours of hard work, the job was finally complete and we were exhausted!! (Well, except for Shelby, who spent most of the day playing with Buddy, the shop owner’s dog!)
We feel that we have made some great improvements to our booth and are going to save money on rent in the process. Although it seems a little weird to be missing our old booth, we were in it for over a year! I think we will be happy with the new one. If you are in the area, be sure to stop by and see all the changes going on at Crazy Daisy’s in East Ridge, TN in the Antique district just off of Slater Road.
