LAURA
“A life lived in fear is a life half lived.”
— Baz Luhrmann, Strictly Ballroom (Screenplays S)
Welcome to Crazy Dave’s Crew. I’m Laura.
Born in Franklin, TN, raised in Hermitage, TN and now living in Chattanooga, I think it’s safe to say that I’m Tennessee born and bred. I did take some time for college in Florida which included a semester in London.
I have always loved reading and writing – my younger self dreaming of being a writer or journalist. But I fell in love with teaching during a stint as a volunteer at an elementary school. I like to keep my hands busy – crocheting, cross stitching, and sewing. I have taken one quilting class at a local sewing shop – the rest is self-taught from Professors Trial and Error. Excellent teachers by the way.
I waited about getting married, finally choosing a partner at age 31. I knew he was something special when I found myself declining dates so that I could be home to catch his phone call (he worked odd hours at an optical).
We’ve had some bumpy roads (you can find more details in Whistle Stops section of the website) but we make a good team – we don’t have to be strong at the same time; we can take turns.
We started the website and youtube channel quite a bit ago, but only “played” with them in the beginning. I told David that I would give him all I got for one year. YouTube channel Crazy Dave’s Crew started 2018 with 100 subscribers and it has grown and grown. Now I can’t imagine NOT making the videos.
The videos have been really really good for me. I’m something of an introvert. Shy. Awkward. Or at least I used to be. Now, I’m finding myself conversing with strangers on Facebook, joining quilting groups, and participating in a local quilt club.
Motherhood is a large part of who I am – I remember my pregnancies as being the most wonderful times of my life. David, however, remembers those months differently. I thought I knew what love was when I married him, but the children changed that definition. It seems incredible that they’re not babies anymore but changing into beautiful young adults. I only wish they could see themselves the way I see them – handsome, beautiful, funny, sweet, talented, smart.
So glad you decided to join our journey. Every day holds a new adventure. So come on along – this should be fun!
