Where’s The Gas?

Got Gas? I hope so!  The world or at least Chattanooga has gone crazy. Laura and I head out to run a few errands and fill up her gas tank.  I had heard that a pipeline had had a leak in Alabama, but I didn’t really think that would affect us that much.

Boy was I wrong!  The first gas station we stopped at was totally out of gas in all grades.  No problem, we’ll just go to the next one.

Nope!  We went to one, then another, then another.  Finally, I pulled in to one that had people at the pumps pumping gas.

I jumped out and started pumping gas as quickly as I could.  It pumped very slowly all the way up to the four cent mark and stopped.  I ran my card again and chose the other grade of gas and tried to start the pump.  Nothing!  What?

I two clerks ran out of the store with yellow bags in their hands and said “We ain’t got gas anymore, we’re out!”

Got Gas? None HereWe Got Gas!

Finally, after checking a few more stations, we were able to fill up the tank.  Afterwards, we discussed how we are going to handle this gas crisis.  We will spend a little more time planning our outings.  Instead of running out for just one thing, but each trip must count!

When we got home the researcher in me kicked in and I looked up everything I could find about the Gas Crisis of 2016.

So, What’s Going On?

According to CNN, “A leak has caused the closure of a crucial pipeline that carries gasoline to the eastern United States.”

Apparently, a section of the Colonial pipeline running from Houston to New York sprang a little leak. (Well, if you consider 250,000 gallons little).  This is the pipeline that provides gasoline to about 50 million people on the East Coast of the United States.

The pipeline has been closed since September 9th and will likely not be operational until next week.  Between now and then Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina and South Carolina are expected to see supply disruptions. (Ya think?)

The governors of Alabama and Georgia have already declared states of emergency.

I hope you’ve been pay attention (unlike me) and actually knew this was coming.

I guess this might cut into my geocaching…  nah, just kidding!

Buckle up everybody!  Looks like it might be a bumpy ride!
