First Light 2016, geocaching

First Light 2016

At the First Light 2016 event, we watched the sun slowly rise over the hill tops in the horizon.  We got to spend an hour or so enjoying the company of some new and old friends as God presented us with a new day and a new year.

After finally getting into bed a little after 1:00 AM, I found myself having trouble falling to sleep.  I didn’t think there would be anyway I would wake up in time to make it to the event and if I didn’t, no one else in our house would!  I’m not sure how or why, but my eyes sprang open at 5:00 AM on the dot.( A full hour before my alarm clock was set to go off!!!)  I layed in bed for about a half of an hour, trying to decide if I really wanted to live up to the “Crazy” in my name or not.

I decided it might be the only sunrise the rest of the Crew will ever see (They really like to sleep), so I climbed out of bed and headed to the coffee maker (I wisely set it to brew at a few minutes before 6:00 AM).  It was brewing when I got to it, so I started waking the children.

Still Dark

Shelby was the first to become aware of what was happening and said “You were serious about watching the sunrise!”  I had to laugh.  I pushed and prodded and finally got all three kids out of bed and getting dressed….very slowly.  Laura and I waited patiently (sipping coffee while we waited) while the kids wiped the sleep from their eyes and got themselves presentable enough to go out into public.  We started heading toward the event 20 minutes later than I had wanted and was already seeing some blue streaks in the sky before we arrived at ground zero.

As we pulled into the parking lot, we saw only the event planner, TNPhotoBug, setting up his video camera on preparation for the first light 2016.  (So, does that mean we were FTF!!)  It wasn’t long before other crazy cachers started arriving, wrapped up in scarves, heavy coats and blankets, with smiles on their faces.  I rolled the bed cover back on my truck and let the tailgate down so the children could huddle together and hide from the light breeze while the watched the sunrise.

Although it wasn’t the greatest sunrise, it was a lot of fun visiting with new and old friends at the First Light 2016 event.  We traded stories about our geocaching wins and defeats, and gave each other insight to geocaches we have been trying to track down(More on this in another post).

TNPhotoBug was kind enough to allow me to offer you his video of his goodbye to 2015 and his hello to 2016. I hope you enjoy it.
